Dr. John P. Cotter M.D. It was the most traumatic experience I have ever had with a physician. He is the most rude, in-compassionate person I have ever met. A robot. Very very mean. Definitely no bedside manner. I just moved here from another town in SC, I had all my medical records from the last 6 years. Which was given to their Greenville Office 2 days previously. I have fibromyalgia. Was diagnosed 3 or 4 years ago, and had all my records. I am taking several controlled medicines, tramadol, Xanax, Flexeral, and a few others. I needed to see the doctor earlier than usual because my tramadol was running out in a few days. And also wanted to talk about treatments for my problem that they had in mind. The moment he came into the room he was ranting about all the medicine I was on, saying who wrote all this medicine for you! And how they don't write these kinds of prescriptions. And how horrible my previous Dr. Was... I told him my situation, and also told him I was willing to work with him and their practice in what ever way he thought best, I just needed some help getting off some of these other medicines. I didn't want to go into withdrawals. He basically started treating me like a drug addict, refused to help me in any way other than refilling my Cymbalta. (I still had 2 months of refills for it, so that wasn't the issue at that moment. Cymbalta is also very addictive, and causes a lot more problems then Tramadol or Xanax...( What a hypocrite). He Refused to even help me wean off the tramadol or other meds. Said that wasn't his problem, he didn't create it. Then told me I probably needed to to to mental health facility. We asked them what they do for patients in pain. He said they do nothing for pain, try to help give you something for swelling. I told him I didn't have swelling, he hadn't even check me. He refused to, said he wasn't going to check me because I was very angry. I told him I wasn't angry, I was frustrated, there was a difference. He also told me there were not any other doctors in the area that would help me. Basically treated me like a dog. Talked down to me... He does not believe in writing any prescriptions that are controlled. Not even Flexeral (a muscle relaxer). I very seldom cry, but I had a breakdown after I left his office, and cried for several hours. He made me feel like a drug addict, and a crazy person. Left me completely hopeless in getting any help for my fibromyalgia. I honestly don't know if he believes FM is an actual incurable, very painful chronic disease. Perhaps he is one of those doctors that thinks it is all mental. I guess this may be what we are in store for with the new health systems through Obama Care. Which they had a sign up place for in their Greenville office. Lord I hope not. The other thing is, I went to their Greenville office 2 days earlier, to see if they could get me the refill for the Tramadol. I was stressed about running out before my appointment I had set with them on July 8. The Greenville office Dr. Told me I would have to wait for an appointment with what would be my regular doctor. and she would get me an appointment for Monday the 22 of June at the Travelers Rest office New Horizons for Monday, when I asked her if they was just going to let me go into withdrawals. She said no. So I thought they would help me at Travelers Rest, Dr John Cotter...(Which she never did). We had to call ourselves...They had all my medical records... Knew what I needed, I made sure of it. They knew that they weren't going to refill the tramadol. Wish they would have informed me. If you are looking for a general practitioner Doctor, I would not recommend this office or any of the new horizon facilities. I'm not sure what kind of medicine they are practicing, very confused. They have no compassion for anyone with a chronic illness. So unless you just have high blood pressure, diabetes, or a cold, this isn't the place to go. Unless you want to walk away feeling hopeless.
